Celebrating Earth Day: MEDIAGENIX launches lease-bike programme as part of greater commitment

On the occasion of Earth Day (22 April), MEDIAGENIX launches a lease-bike programme as a new step in a continuing commitment to implement and maintain a sustainable and socially responsible policy.

MEDIAGENIX celebrated Earth Day (22 April) by launching a lease bike programme as part of a sustainable mobility plan that also includes the transition to a 100% electric fleet. In the greater scheme of things, this is another step in a continuing commitment to implementing and maintaining a sustainable and socially responsible policy.

Chief People Officer Myriam Hoste said: “MEDIAGENIX is happy and proud to launch the lease-bike programme today. It’s an attractive benefit that contributes to our health and well-being. It also fits perfectly into our sustainability approach.”

Fittingly, Myriam Hoste presented the plan to the MEDIAGENIX team right before Earth Day, the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement (in 1970). Earthday.org’s mission is to educate people and activate the environmental movement worldwide. Thousands of communities engage in actions to drive positive action for our planet. 

Sustainable and socially responsible policy

We, too, aim to minimize our impact on the world and do our bit to make this a healthier and happier place for everyone. In 2020, we signed the United Nations Global Compact. This international commitment to 10 principles in the fundamental areas of human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption encourages organizations and companies worldwide to implement a sustainable and socially responsible policy and to report on its implementation. These principles guide us to operate responsibly and take actions that support our society. 

One example is our annual Reconnect Challenge, a friendly competition where we team up to organize events or activities in aid of good causes.

Sustainable mobility

Another example is our transition to sustainable mobility, which not only includes the electric cars and our lease bicycle programme but also our ‘MChallenge’. For years, we have challenged our teams to come to work by bike from March until September and aim for 1000K on the counter. This year, we spiced it up by challenging people to aim for the top in multiple disciplines: biking, hiking, swimming and running. We count not just the kilometres biked in the home-to-work commute but also the ones done outside of work, in the evening or at the weekends. 

Physical, mental, and social well-being

We recognize physical, mental and social well-being are critical factors on the work floor, and we are committed to supporting a variety of well-being initiatives, including workout sessions, relaxation exercises, potluck lunches, boardgame evenings, and all kinds of what we call ‘MPowered’ initiatives that spontaneously emanate from the team.

Ban on plastic water bottles

On 22 March, we celebrated World Water Day, the perfect day to stop putting water bottles in our communal kitchen fridges at the head office. Instead, we encourage everyone to use special taps that deliver mineral, cooled, and sparkling water. We are also looking into a more sustainable alternative for our soda drinks.

We are proud of the steps we have taken, but this is by no means all that we want to do to drive positive change in our environment. Every day should be Earth Day.

We recognize physical, mental and social well-being are critical factors on the work floor.
